The family of former Akwa Ibom lawmaker, Senator Nelson Effiong have lamented over the whereabouts of their relative, eight days after he was abducted.
Brother to the victim, Chief Eyoh Effiong told newsmen in Uyo on Monday that the abductors were yet to contact the family, noting that the family have been waiting for any useful information on the whereabouts of their brother.
“The people that abducted him have not contacted the family yet. We are hoping that maybe within this week, we will hear from them (abductor), but for now nothing; we have not heard anything,” he said.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command is also yet to make an arrest, although it has started investigations that could trail and uncovered the hoodlums behind the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon, however, assured the family and the public that the command would spare no efforts to track down the hoodlums.
“We are yet to make any arrest, the command is still investigating,” he said.
Former Senator Nelson Effiong, who was the immediate past representative of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, was abducted in his sit-out along Oron road on Sunday night, September 7, 2021.
Several other persons were injured during the attack on Effiong, also in former Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
