The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has intensified its intelligence-driven crackdown on dealers of Indian hemp and other illicit substances, leading to multiple arrests and the recovery of significant quantities of suspected banned drugs during coordinated raids on identified flashpoints.

The operations were strategically planned and executed simultaneously in known criminal hideouts based on actionable intelligence. Several suspects are currently in custody and will be charged upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has directed that the fight against drug trafficking and distribution be sustained without interruption.

Azare issued a firm warning to individuals involved in the unlawful trade of Indian hemp and other illicit substances to desist immediately or leave Akwa Ibom State.

The command stated that it would not stand by while youths are drawn into addiction, criminality, and social decline. It noted that the proliferation of illicit drugs is closely linked to cultism, armed robbery, violent crimes, and the erosion of family and community values, adding that it remains resolute in dismantling networks that threaten the safety and future of the state.

The Police further declared that Akwa Ibom is no longer a haven for drug barons and peddlers. Surveillance has been strengthened, intelligence gathering enhanced, and inter-agency collaboration reinforced. Those who ignore the warning, the command said, will face arrest, prosecution, and the full weight of the law.

The command called on parents, traditional institutions, youth leaders, and other community stakeholders to support the Police with credible and timely information to help safeguard communities.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order across the state.

The statement was signed by DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
