A’Ibom govt to deploy security operatives in all villages
Ini Billie, Uyo
The Akwa Ibom State Government has concluded plans to deploy security operatives to every village in the state.
Governor Umo Eno stated this on Tuesday in Uyo while receiving the new Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare who paid a courtesy visit to his office.
Eno said the government was raising its local security group, Ibom Community Watch to enhance community policing.
He mentioned that state government would give the police the necessary support to enable it combat crime, maintain peace and security in the state, adding that Ibom Community Watch would provide them with the necessary information they need.
He, however, decried the spate of vandalization of public facilities especially transformers, saying it costs government a lot of money to replace the vandalized transformers which hinders rural development.
“For community policing, you are aware of the Ibom Community Watch. We are raising them to enhance community policing and we trust that they will continue to do the work by giving you adequate information.
“Currently, we are trying to ensure that there is at least one in every village so that they can help particularly to monitor government facilities in those villages,” he stated.
While speaking, CP Azare appreciated the governor for supporting security agencies in the State, saying he was open to collaboration with other security agencies to ensure that peace and security is maintained in Akwa Ibom.
