This was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Odiko MacDon, on Tuesday.
According to him, the 16 special constabularies, who had earlier participated in the first batch of training at Police Training School, Calabar were deployed across the 31 local government areas.
He said: “The Commissioner of Police Akwa Ibom State, CP Andrew Amiengheme, has received, briefed and deployed 496 Police Special Constabularies of Akwa Ibom origin to various Divisions across the Command.
“It would be recalled that 16 each were picked out of the 50 selected from each of the 31 Local Government Areas of the State to participate in the first batch of training which took place at Police Training School (PTS) Calabar.
“The Commissioner of Police while briefing the Special Constabularies noted that discipline remains the bedrock of the Nigeria Police Force.
“He, therefore called on them to be disciplined and eschew any act capable of denting the image of the Nigeria Police Force in the State.
“He identified their major role to be assisting the Police in performing its constitutionally assigned responsibilities, while assuring them of his continued availability.”
The CP assured that the 496 special constabularies sent to the Divisions of their Local Government Areas command would boost the manpower and enhance adequate security in the state.
