A’Ibom assembly receives supplementary budget of N73.49bn

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, on Thursday, received the 2024 Supplementary Budget of N73.49 billion from Gov. Umo Eno for consideration
The proposed revised budget has an augmented figure of N73,49 billion from an initial approved sum of N849,97 billion totaling N923.46 billion.
The Executive Bill was read by the Clerk of the House, Mrs NsikakAbasi Orok and received on the floor of the House during Plenary on Thursday.
The bill was received following a motion by the member representing Ini state constituency, Mr Lawrence Udoide and seconded by his Nsit Ibom Counterpart, Mr Eric Akpan.
Leading the debate on the Supplementary Budget, the Deputy House Leader, Mr Otobong Bob (Nsit Ubium) said the 2024 revised financial provision is necessary as there are sectors which funds would be plunged in, to support the ARISE Agenda of the State Government.
The Lawmaker disclosed that the revised budget has a recurrent expenditure of N350.14 billion and a Capital Expenditure of N573.32 billion.
He explained that the supplementary budget will among other things, cater for public servants, especially the newly created Ministry of Humanitarian Services.
The bill was subsequently read the second time and committed to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for legislative action and to report back within one week.
The House also referred a message from the Governor for an adjustment to the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) to the House Committee on Economic Planning for consideration, and to report back within one week.
Meanwhile, the House has adjourned plenary to reconvene on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
