Abduction of judge: CSO disturbed, calls for unconditional release

The Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN) has received a sad and disturbing report of the abduction of a High Court Judge in Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Justice Joy Unwana, and her driver.
According to the report, the sad incident, which claimed the life of the Police Orderly attached to the Judge, happened on Monday, 18 December 2023, along the Uyo-Okobo Road, Oron Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.
This was contained in a statement signed by the CHRAN’s Director, Otuekong Franklyn Isong and the Secretary Mr Christopher Ekpo on Wednesday, 20 December 2023.
The judge was said to have been abducted by unknown gunmen on her way from a Court sitting at the Oron Judicial Division of the Akwa Ibom State High Court.
The center condemns the incident, mourns the loss of the Judge’s Police Orderly, and calls for the immediate and unconditional release of the Judge and her driver.
CHRAN urges security agencies in the state to expedite action towards ensuring the immediate release of the Judge and her driver and calls on the government to upscale measures aimed at ensuring the security of lives and property in the state.
