A bill to amend AKISIEC law 2007 passes second reading

The Bill to amend the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) Law 2007 and for other matters connected therewith passed through it second reading at plenary of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly.

The bill which is an executive bill was introduced at the floor of the house by the Leader of the House, Mr Udo Kierian at plenary.

The Leader said that amendment will take care of few clauses that would ensure a hitch-free Local Government elections which will be due December.

He added that the amendment of the AKISIEC Law is to put things in place to ensure that the present tenure of Local Government Administration which will expire by Dec. 2023 is taken care of.

Also at plenary, the House also considered a bill for a Law to Establish Ibom Industrial City Corporation, for the development and regulation of Ibom Industrial City and for other matters connected therewith was considered.

Kierian, while speaking on the Bill for a Law to establish Ibom Industrial City Corporation, for the development and regulation of Ibom Industrial City and for other matters connected therewith’, said the bill when passed will regulate the operation of Ibom Deep Seaport and its facilities.

After the first reading members deliberated on the bills and the bill was read a second time.

The Speaker of the House, Mr Aniekan Bassey, committed the bills to the House Committees on Industry, Commerce and Tourism; and that of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs respectively.

The speaker directed the respective committees to consider the bills and report back to the House in two days.
