Member representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Stephen Olukayode Ogundipe, has expressed sympathy to residents affected by the recent flooding that devastated parts of his constituency, assuring them of continued advocacy for lasting solutions to the recurring problem.

Ogundipe, in a statement on Monday, described the destruction caused by the flooding in the Sogunle and Mafoluku communities as heartbreaking, noting that many families had lost homes, property and means of livelihood, while others had been displaced.

He said his thoughts and prayers were with all affected residents, expressing hope that they would find the strength and support needed to recover from the disaster.

The lawmaker stated that he had consistently drawn the attention of relevant government agencies to the persistent flooding in the affected communities through petitions, official engagements and other advocacy efforts.

According to him, although the government has initiated some interventions, more urgent and sustainable measures are required to address the problem permanently.

“I will continue to follow up on previous petitions and engagements with the appropriate authorities until meaningful and lasting interventions are implemented. The safety and well-being of our constituents remain my highest priority,” he said.

Ogundipe, however, cautioned residents to prepare for difficult but necessary government decisions aimed at safeguarding lives and property, including the enforcement of environmental regulations, drainage setbacks and other urban renewal measures.

He acknowledged that such policies might cause temporary inconvenience but stressed that they were essential to preventing future flooding and creating safer communities.

The lawmaker urged residents to cooperate fully with government agencies whenever intervention projects commence, saying collective responsibility and compliance with environmental regulations would contribute significantly to reducing flood risks.

He reaffirmed his commitment to advocating improved drainage infrastructure, effective flood control measures and sustainable environmental management across Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I.

Ogundipe also prayed for God’s comfort for affected families and for protection against future disasters.
