One killed in Lagos road crash, LASEMA recovers accident vehicles

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, in a series of operations, on Saturday, recovered two articulated trucks, one LT bus and a car from a scene of a multiple accident at Oba Ogunji, Pen Cinema, Agege.

The accident which recorded a casualty that was taken to an unknown hospital before arrival of the agency responders, and a fatality that was bagged and handed over to the State Environmental Monitoring Unit, SEHMU, occurred when an LT bus rammed into a 40 feet container truck that resulted in the multiple accident.

This was contained in a press statement issued by Head, Public Affairs, LASEMA, Nosa Okunbor, on Saturday.

It was learnt that reports emanating from office of the DG/CEO LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu on the multiple road traffic accidents at Oba Ogunji Road, Pen Cinema, Agege has it that; “Upon arrival of the agency’s officials at the above scene at 3 am, it was observed that a LT bus ran into a 40 feet container truck which resulted in a multiple accident involving 2 40ft container trucks, 1 saloon car and an LT bus.

“An adult male (driver of one of the container trucks) had been rescued and taken to an unknown hospital by bystanders prior to the arrival of the first responders.

The responders met one fatality – an unidentified adult male whose remains were taken away by officials of SEHMU.

“All the affected vehicles have been recovered, towed off and handed over to Police Officers from Agege Police Station. 

“Operations concluded. LRT heading back to base”.

The agency also recovered a burnt saloon car at Falomo, Ikoyi Lagos on Saturday.

According to the Situation Report on the Falomo incident: “On getting to the scene, the LASEMA Response Team, LRT, discovered a burnt saloon car that was causing obstruction along the axis.

“However, the swift response of the Agency’s Hiab truck was engaged to evacuate the impediment off the road.”

In another development, LASEMA Response Teams just concluded the full recovery of a fallen tanker laden with 33, 000 litres of petrol.

Situation Report on the fallen oil tanker at the above-mentioned address has it that: “Investigation conducted by the Team upon arrival at the scene revealed a tanker with unknown registration number loaded with 33,000 litres of PMS fell when trying to manoeuvre its way due to bad road and the heavy downpour which resulted in spilling its contents.

“The content was still spilling as at the time of filling in this report while plans had already been made by the owners of the tanker to bring in another tanker for transloading.

“This incident has completely shut down vehicular movement inward and outward Badagry.

“The scene has been cordoned off while sensitization is ongoing with people around the neighbourhood against any bush burning or fire ignition.

“LRT, LASG Fire, LNSC and NPF are all responders at the scene collaborating to manage the situation.”

In a final update, it was recorded that: “Transloading has just been completed.

“LRT activated the Agency’s Super Metro for full recovery of the empty oil tanker.

“The fallen oil tanker has been successfully recovered off the road and placed at a safe place to ease traffic gridlock on the corridor.

“Hence, recovery operation was concluded without any secondary incident and LRT heading back to base.”
