Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a TikTok user, Udoma David Ekeh, for allegedly spreading false information about the Commission and its officers.

Ekeh, in December 2025, alerted the public to claims that some operatives of the EFCC’s Ilorin Zonal Directorate had been kidnapped by bandits while on assignment in Kwara State.

He further alleged that the bandits demanded a large ransom from the Commission before releasing the purported officers.

However, the EFCC stated that the claims were entirely fabricated, accusing the suspect of using his TikTok account to incite and misinform the public about the Commission’s efforts to combat internet fraud.

Preliminary investigations also revealed that the suspect was allegedly involved in a romance scam, using his Facebook account to impersonate a foreigner identified as Garg Carta.

The EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, said the suspect would be charged in court soon.
