Police nab burglary suspects, recover gun and stolen goods

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, items recovered from the suspects include a locally made pistol, one live cartridge, several bunches of keys believed to be master keys, an iron cutter, and a mobile phone. The suspects reportedly confessed during interrogation to involvement in shop burglary activities within the area.

In a swift follow-up operation aimed at expanding the investigation and dismantling the criminal network, police also arrested two suspected receivers of stolen goods, identified as Innocent Nnaukwu, 39, and Ali Ibrahim, 24.

Police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested two suspected shop burglars and recovered a firearm and other stolen items during a targeted early-morning operation.

The operation was conducted at approximately 3:30 am on 17 March 2026 along Aka Road and the surrounding areas, following credible intelligence. Two suspects, Idiongho Johnny, 29, and Ofonime Jimmy, 30, both residents of Uyo, were apprehended.

Items recovered from the suspected receivers include two generators, a welding coil, and a car battery, all believed to be stolen.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, praised the operatives for their professionalism and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to nab other members of the syndicate and recover additional stolen items.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to the police.
