The Olumegbon of Ajah Ile and Ajah Okun Ajah, Oba Kolawole Akinwon IV, has congratulated a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Adebisi Akande, on his 87th birthday.
In a statement issued from his palace on Friday, the monarch described Chief Akande as a towering figure in Yorubaland and Nigerian politics, whose legacy of integrity, principled leadership and selfless service continues to inspire younger generations.
Oba Akinwon, who will mark his first anniversary on the throne on February 1, praised the elder statesman for his immense contributions to governance, progressive politics and national development.
He recalled Akande’s public service record, including his tenure as Deputy Governor of the defunct Oyo State, his role as the first civilian Governor of Osun State between 1999 and 2003, and his service as the founding interim National Chairman of the APC. According to the monarch, these roles reflected Akande’s commitment to public welfare, fiscal discipline and democratic ideals.
“Chief Bisi Akande remains a symbol of integrity, wisdom and unwavering commitment to the well-being of the people. At 87, he stands as a father figure whose counsel continues to guide the nation towards unity and progress,” Oba Akinwon said.
The traditional ruler prayed for God to grant Chief Akande good health, long life and renewed strength to continue making positive contributions to Nigeria. He also extended warm regards to the Akande family, associates and members of the progressive political family nationwide, urging them to celebrate the milestone with gratitude for the elder statesman’s enduring legacy.
The tribute comes amid a wave of goodwill messages to Chief Akande from prominent Nigerians, including President Bola Tinubu, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and former Minister of Interior, Adegboyega Oyetola.
