Ayangburen urges Nigerians to support tax reform

The traditional ruler of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, has urged citizens to support the new tax reform, describing it as a progressive measure aimed at protecting poor and vulnerable Nigerians.

Shotobi appealed when he visited the hospital to distribute gifts to the first baby of the year on Thursday in Ikorodu, Lagos.

The CitizenDiary reports that the first baby, a male, was delivered by Mrs Esther Fatai at about 12:13 a.m., weighing 3.9 kg.

The second baby, a male, was delivered by Mrs Abiodun Shittu at about 3:08 a.m., while the third, also a male, was delivered by Mrs Damilola Olufinkua at about 4:03 a.m.

CitizenDiary reports that cash and baby materials were distributed to the three women by the traditional ruler, accompanied by his wife, Olori Kudirat, and caregivers, while other women who delivered after them also received a cash gift in the hospital.

Oba Shotobi said the reforms show the determination of President Bola Tinubu’s APC-led federal government to initiate a fair and efficient tax system that would improve revenue generation and make the country better.

“In simple arithmetic, when you pay or receive money from the bank account, you will be charged, but that one has gone now.“

The tax reform will benefit us. Let’s have patience, we will get there in Nigeria. We are not going to wait for any external bodies to come and tell us what to do; we will manage ourselves,” he said.

According to the traditional ruler, there would not be multiple deductions on transactions, and low-income earners and small businesses would have low or no pressure on their businesses.

In his remark, Dr. Taiwo Hassan, Medical Director (MD) of General Hospital (GH) Ikorodu, thanked Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for supporting the hospital and promised to take healthcare services in Ikorodu to the next level.

Hassan added that the efforts of the GH staffers in terms of neatness, efficiency, and professionalism have made the hospital become one of the best among equals in Lagos State.

“You cannot push GH Ikorodu aside, because the staff are doing their best to support the healthcare of indigent residents of Ikorodu Division.

“Going forward in 2026, our staff are committed because they are well motivated, they will continue to do their best, which they’ve been doing, to get the best,” he said.

The MD appreciated the stakeholders for the building of the Renal Centre in the GH, adding that the building is 80 per cent complete.
