Adedayo Ladega, Executive Chairman of the Ikorodu Local Government Area in Lagos State, has presented a ₦5.4 billion budget proposal for 2026 to the legislative arm of the council.
The budget, tagged “Budget of Prosperity,” is 24.3 per cent higher than the 2025 approved appropriation.
Addressing councillors on Monday, Ladega said the council’s internally generated revenue (IGR) is projected at ₦184.45 million, while allocation from the federation account is estimated at ₦1.24 billion. He added that value-added tax (VAT) is projected at ₦3.76 billion.
The state-coordinated revenue is put at ₦91.5 million, while total recurrent expenditure stands at ₦2.74 billion. Other FAAC-related allocations are estimated at ₦134.41 million.
Ladega described the budget as realistic, practical, and people-oriented, noting that it is designed to improve security, strengthen education, enhance primary healthcare, and deliver development projects across the local government.
“We thank our President, Bola Tinubu (GCFR), who has allowed us to plan and be ready to execute. A lot can be achieved with our allocation.
“As you can see, within our first 100 days, we have made significant changes in the council. With the support of our staff, Ikorodu will witness greater impact,” he said.
According to him, the administration is guided by the S.E.E.D Agenda—Security, Education, Enhanced healthcare, and Development—aimed at boosting economic and infrastructural growth in the area.
He listed some achievements since assuming office to include a mega empowerment programme for 500 beneficiaries, road projects across all wards, installation of solar-powered boreholes, and the Mudun Mudun Ladega cash empowerment scheme for vulnerable residents, among others.
Earlier, the Leader of the Ikorodu LG legislative arm, Mr Wasiu Shotomiwa, said the 2026 Budget of Prosperity reflects the council’s intention to invest in critical sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth and women empowerment, security, and economic development.
Shotomiwa assured stakeholders that the legislature would subject the proposal to thorough scrutiny, constructive engagement, and timely consideration to ensure transparency, accountability, and value for money.
“Prosperity is not assured by figures alone, but by the positive impact those figures will have on the daily lives of our people.
“Our goal is to ensure that every naira appropriated translates into visible and measurable progress,” he said.
In his remarks, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State and a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), described the budget size as commendable, considering the achievements recorded within the short period since Ladega assumed office.
“I believe he will manage the resources for positive impact and sustained growth in the community, after due scrutiny by the legislative arm,” he said.
