Command nabs suspected ritualist, recovers firearm in A’Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, on Friday, 8 August 2025, said it arrested a suspected ritualist and recovered a firearm in Uruan Local Government Area.
DSP Timfon John stated that on 29 July 2025, around 6:51 pm, operatives acting on credible intelligence apprehended Cletus Effiong Bassey, a 30-year-old man, at his shrine in Nung Oku village, Uruan LGA.
“On July 29, 2025, at approximately 18:51 hours, Operatives acting on credible intelligence apprehended One Cletus Effiong Bassey, a 30-year-old male, at his shrine in Nung Oku Village, Uruan LGA.
“Bassey is suspected of being involved in ritualistic activities, including providing native charms and ‘bullet repellers’ to armed robbers,” she said.
She added that a search of his compound led to the recovery of one fabricated single-barreled gun.
John said that the investigation into the matter was still ongoing.
