Police arrest four secondary school students for intoxicating, raping teenager

Four suspects were arrested on Sunday, November 24 by Adamawa State Police Command for alleged criminal conspiracy and rape of a 17-year-old girl (name withheld) after intoxicating her with alcohol.

The suspects, who are also minors and students of Government Secondary School in the state, were identified as Sukari, 16; Collins, 16; Barnabas, 17 and Ferdinand, 17 (surnames withheld).

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects, said that the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, had ordered that they be put in protective custody pending the outcome of the investigation and legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Thenewsbearer learnt that a report was made to the police by a complainant who resides in Sugu village that the suspects allegedly conspired and raped the 17-year-old victim after she got intoxicated by alcohol given to her.

“During the investigation, the suspects confessed to committing the crime by having unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim one after the other, and that contradicts our extant laws,” the PPRO said.

Expressing worry over the ugly incident, Morris assured that the law would take its course after the investigation.

The Adamawa police boss advised members of the public, especially parents, to develop a habit of close monitoring of their wards and also give timely information to the police.
