FRSC commences ember months campaign in A’Ibom

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Akwa Ibom Sector Command, has commenced ember months campaign and deployed 738 personnel across the state to ensure road safety during the ember months.

The Sector Commander, Mr Edward Odiete, disclosed this during sensitisation campaign and road walk in Uyo on Wednesday.

Odiete said the theme for the ember months campaign is, “Speak Up Against Dangerous Driving; Crashes Kill more Passengers than Drivers.”

He said the 738 personnel, including Special Marshals have been strategically deployed to major routes for traffic control and calming.

He said nine patrol vehicles, two ambulances, and arrangements for tow trucks will ensure effective coverage and obstruction clearance.

“To enhance the Corps’ visibility and ensure adequate and strategic deployment of personnel and material resources for free-flow of traffic and ease of doing business in State.

“A total of 738 operatives (Regular and Special Marshals) will be strategically deployed ahead of the Yuletide Celebration to man major routes in the state for traffic control/calming,” Odiete said.

Odiete warned drivers and road users to celebrate cautiously, avoiding reckless speeding, saying, “Only when alive can one celebrate.”

He stressed on the need to minimize road carnages, avoid recklessness and speeding.

“To minimize road carnages, we must, as a matter of safety, avoid any display or demonstration of recklessness.”

Odiete assured  the public of FRSC’s commitment to entrenching road sanity. 

He urged road users to observe traffic rules, obey signs and signals, and report incidents to the FRSC toll-free line 122.
