Failed arrest: Two police officers escaped death

Two police officers from Abak Divisional Headquarters escaped death by whiskers and are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in Akwa Ibom State.

It was gathered that the two officers had gone to Ibong Ikot Akpan Abasi, Otoro Clan in the Abak Local Government Area to arrest a wanted criminal, simply identified as Udo.

The officers were said to have gone in a private car to arrest the suspect. Upon arresting the suspect, the vehicle the officers used developed a fault when they were going back to the station.

It was learnt that the incident prompted the wanted criminal to raise the alarm that he was being kidnapped by unknown persons.

The alarm raised attracted youths of the community to mobilise, rescue him and then turn to attack the two officers with matchets and give them the beating of their lives even though they presented their identity cards.

However, it took the intervention of the Paramount Ruler of Abak, HRM Obong Saviour Udofia to rescue them and take them to the hospital for treatment.

Confirming the incident, a senior police officer in Abak who pleaded anonymity, said that the two officers are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

He noted that the wanted criminal would soon have his cup full and a date with the security operatives.
