Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN) has criticised a video that has gone viral about an Uyo-based lawyer beating his spouse in public.
This was contained in a statement issued by its Director, Otuekong Franklyn Isong, and Secretary, Mr Christopher Ekpo, on Sunday, 17 December 2023, and made available to newsmen in Uyo.
“The attention of the Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN) has been drawn to a trending video on social media portraying a man, said to be a Uyo, Akwa Ibom State-based legal practitioner, assaulting a woman, said to be his wife.
“The Center condemns every act of gender-based violence no matter the level of provocation,” the statement read.
The center calls on law enforcement agencies in Akwa Ibom State to investigate the incident portrayed in the said video to ascertain guilt and urges the government to sustain measures aimed at stemming the tide of gender-based violence in the state.
