Vulnerable women totalling 164 in Akwa Ibom State have received business startup capital, clothing, and food items.

The empowerment items which were donated by a philanthropist, Mrs Ini-obong Uboh were disbursed on Tuesday at Ikot Iko primary school in Ibesikpo Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking on her philanthropist gesture, Mrs Uboh explained that the economic hardship currently experienced necessitated the empowerment exercise.

Uboh stated that she chose to focus on women’s empowerment because they were the live wires that sustain the family.

“Women are the key sole of a family. If you observe, whatever they find to do, they do it for their family.

“I have advised them not to be idle but they should be industrial for them to continuously support their family.

“The little money I gave to each of them is to help support their businesses and those who did not have what to do can start up something even if to begin a groundnut business,” she stated.

The jubilant beneficiaries who were dancing, praising, and praying for the philanthropist, applauded the gesture.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Ime Asuqwo promised to invest the money she received in a business, while another beneficiary, Mrs Imaobong Sunday said she would judiciously use the money to cater for her children, adding that life has been very difficult for her.
