A Non-Governmental Organisation, NIDSMET has trained over 80 people including students, who are on holiday on various skills for free.
The skills they were trained on include tie and dye, tailoring, jewellery making, chips and chops as well as other catering outputs for five days.
Mr Ndubuisi Okafor, Convener, Amuwo Decides and Media Committee Chairman, Satellite Town Forum, urged the trainees to seize the opportunity to learn a skill, noting that learning a skill is a life-long endeavour.
He, however, commended Mr Oluwole Olabiyi for organising the programme for the benefit of not only the students but also the youths and elderly of Oriade Local Council Development Area, Lagos State.
He said: “The interesting thing is that the trainees, most of them at very young ages had learnt tie and dye, tailoring, jewellery making, chips and chops and other catering outputs just within five days and they were very happy and excited.
“The children tailors wore the dresses they made, the catering section prepared all the small chops and yoghurt taken as part of refreshment, did all the jewellery and the tie and dye products displayed.
“I want to deeply appreciate the organiser Mr Oluwole Olabiyi and his NGO. It’s well with him and he will soar to greater heights.”
He also called on the Oriade LCDA, Lagos State Government, Federal Government of Nigeria and, indeed, all representatives in government to intervene in providing lifelong skills for children and youths.
Okafor asked the various governments to reach out and support Oluwole Olabiyi and other drivers of skill programmes in Oriade LCDA, Amuwo Odofin LGA, Lagos State and across Nigeria for a difference; most especially in this palliative period.
