Woman dies, husband, son injured in Okada accident
A woman reportedly died while her husband and son suffered varying degrees of injuries on Sunday as the motorcycle, they were riding to church swerved to avoid a head-on collision with another motorcyclist coming from the opposite direction at the Obantoko end of the Abeokuta -Ibadan-Asero Road in Ogun State.
A traffic report from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency indicated that the deceased fell as the motorcycle swerved and hit her head on the hard road.
The Public Relations Officer, TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi who confirmed the accident to NOTM said soon as the other motorcyclist saw the damage done, he sped away from the scene.
Akinbiyi added that the accident happened opposite the Mobil Petrol station, Obantoko outbound Abeokuta-Ibadan Road, and it really caused gridlock along the axis, as it occurred around 9.10 am when residents were trooping to church.
He said the ill-fated motorcycle bore number plate TTN 08 VG.
He said, “According to an eyewitness account, the crash happened when the motorcycle conveying the dead woman, his husband (rider) and child were making their way towards Fajol inbound Obantoko, for the first church service of the year.
“In an attempt to avoid a head-on collision with another motorcyclist from an opposite direction, swerved, and the dead woman, who was also his wife, due to shock and not well balanced in her sitting position, more so that, they were 3 pillion riders on the motorcycle, fell on her side and died instantly.
“Her corpse has been taken away by the family for burial at Osiele axis.”
Meanwhile, the TRACE commiserates with the family of the deceased, it warned motorcyclists to be careful, cautious, and patient and avoid excessive speed, particularly on narrow highways, in view of its attendant consequences.
