Suspected cultists kill two vigilantes in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two men believed to be members of a disbanded vigilante group called OSPAC in the Ompovan Ibaa, Emouha Local Government Area of the state.

Sources who craved anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the subject told our correspondent that the members of the disbanded local security outfit were ambushed at a narrow path in the community and shot dead by the assailants.

They said the incident resulted in pandemonium in the area, as residents scampered for safety.

One of them said, “What I can say is that they are all cultists…Maybe they were trying to avenge the death of one of their men.

“It is very sad that in Emuoha local government, especially Ibaa, a lot of killings have been going on. Nobody knows who to suspect again. Let the government and security agencies come to our aid because the wicked things going on here are too much.”

The spokesperson of the command, Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said an investigation has been launched into the incident.

She further said calm has returned to the area after policemen were drafted there to forestall any security breach.

“We are aware of the incident and investigation is ongoing to find out what really happened and to apprehend the suspects.

“For now, our men are in the community and normalcy has been restored,” the state police image maker said.

She, however, appealed to residents of the area to report suspicious characters and movements to the nearest police station for prompt action.
