World Malaria Day: Ibom Air gifts A’Ibom, others 1,000 pieces of ITNs

Ibom Air has said it will continue to partner with the Akwa Ibom Government to fight against Malaria among pregnant women and children from zero to five years.

The company also donated 1, 000 pieces of Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs) and 3,000 doses of Sulfadoxine/Pyrimethamine (SP oral) to the State Ministry of Health as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.

The Chief Operating Officer, Ibom Air, Mr George Uriesi, said this during a ceremony marking the 2024 World Malaria Day in Uyo on Thursday.

Uriesi said that the target remains pregnant women and children from zero to five years to be protected against malaria.

“The realisation is that it’s not only government alone. The benefit is for everybody. I believe that the token we have presented today will help some people.

“But the most important is that Ibom Air can contribute to the awareness because we need to make people to be aware of what to do.

“We have an opportunity that we carry people every day to get to realise that they have things to contribute by keeping the environment clean and what to do when they get infected by the Malaria parasite.

“I think this token will be judiciously used,” Uriesi said.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Augustine Umoh, who received the items on behalf of the government thanked Ibom Air for their kind gesture.

Umoh appealed to other companies operating in the state to join hands with the state government in the health sector to drive the ARISE Agenda and kick malaria out.

“It is with appreciation and joy in our heart that we receive with a promise that they will be effectively utilised.

“We will monitor their utilisation and ensure that these items donated by Ibom Air get to our people and ensure that this confidence is not broken.

“I enjoined other well-meaning companies and other corporate citizens, as well other Nigerians to join Ibom Air and add value to the health sector,” Umoh said.
