Two policemen killed as Zamfara command repels attack on Magami community

The Zamfara Police Command said it received a report that bandits stormed Magami town in Gusau LGA to attack the community on Sunday night.

A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Mohammed Shehu, on Monday, noted that the Commissioner of Police, Hussaini Rabiu, directed Police Tactical units comprising of PMF/CTU/Special Forces and Operation Puff Adder based in the area to synergise and ensure protection of lives and property of the people.

According to him, the tactical units moved in courageously and engaged the assailants to a gun duel. He added that following the encounter, the attackers were successfully repelled, while unspecified number of bandits were neutralised with many of them escaped with possible gunshot wounds.

“Unfortunately, two of our Police operatives paid the supreme price while defending the innocent members of the communities. No loss of live from the side of the communities.

“The Commissioner of Police further deployed additional tactical operatives to the area to complement the ongoing bush combing operations aimed at forestalling further attacks on the nearby villages,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the CP has reiterated his warning to all the recalcitrant armed bandits to either surrender their arms and embrace peace or face the unpredictable consequences.

He said Rabiu also called on the police operatives in the command to defend themselves and the community aggressively in any engagement with bandits and ensure that they dominate the ungoverned spaces on a continuous basis. He further thanked the officers and men for their resilience.
