Two die, three injured in Anambra road crash

A fatal road crash involving different vehicles at Nteje-Oyi bridge in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State has claimed two lives and others injured.

The incident occurred at about 13:00 hours on Sunday at Nteje-Oyi bridge by Nteje-Otuocha road.

According to Margaret B. Onabe, the Acting Sector Public Education Officer of Sector Commander FRSC Anambra State, the crash involved a private Volkswagen/Golf with registration number, AGU970JT, a commercial Daihstu/shuttle bus, with registration number, NSH521YJ with Fleet name: Omambala Line Drivers and a commercial Kumata Motorcycle with no registration number.

She attributed the cause of the fatal crash to high speed and wrongful overtaken.

An eyewitness said the bike rider who was at a very high speed overtook them wrongfully, and in the process collided with the bus.

The bus driver was said to have lost control of the bus and it somersaulted which left a serious impact on the golf.

Onabe stated that eleven persons were involved in the crash and comprised of eight male adults and three female adults.

“Three male adults sustained varying degrees of injury and two male adults were killed which include a passenger in the bus and the bike rider.

“The crash victims were rushed to Chira Hospital in Awkuzu by FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje Unit Command where two male adults were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.”

The dead victims were deposited at the same hospital morgue.

The rescue team managed traffic and ensured obstruction caused by the crash was cleared.

The Sector Commander Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi in reaction commiserated with the family of the dead and prayed for a quick recovery for those injured.

He, however, warned motorists to desist from excessive speed and wrongful overtaking, especially during the festive periods when the roads are very busy.
