Truck kills three, injures two others at Sango-Ota tollgate
Three persons were killed while two others were injured as a truck rammed into shops and commuters around the Sango-Ota tollgate area, Ogun State on Tuesday night.
A traffic report from the state’s Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, indicated that the incident happened around 8.45 pm.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer, TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the driver of the truck with number plate KNN 788 YA “due to reckless driving and brake failure lost control of the truck and it rammed into shops, killing three persons and injuring two others.”
He said two females and one male died while two females were injured, and those injured were rushed to the State Hospital, Ota.
Corpses of those who died had been deposited at the morgue of State Hospital, Ifo.
Akinbiyi said the truck which belongs to a cement manufacturing company was travelling inbound to Lagos.
He said, “According to an eyewitness account, the truck was coming from Ifo axis inbound Lagos, when on approaching the Sango-Ota tollgate, suddenly the driver lost control of the truck due to speeding and reckless driving, resulting in brake failure.
“The truck swerved off the road, hitting lock-up shops some distance off the traffic corridor.”
He said the driver of the truck fully loaded with cement, escaped unhurt.
While the TRACE, FRSC and police commiserated with the family of the deceased, they warned drivers of articulated vehicles to regulate and control their speed and also ensure their vehicles are properly and adequately maintained.
