Three suspected criminals escape from police custody in Calabar

Three kidnap and armed robbery suspects have escaped from police custody in Calabar, Cross River State.
Cross River Police Command, who confirmed the escape said the suspects tried to escape from its headquarters in Calabar on Sunday.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state on Monday, Irene Ugbo, it was three-armed robbery and kidnap suspects that escaped and not 19 as speculated.
“Only three escaped. Two of them were gunned down while one was rearrested.
“The girlfriend of one of the suspects procured the saw which was used to cut the lock before they escaped,” she said.
It was gathered that the station guard and some other officers have been detained over the incident.
