Three feared dead on Itu-Uyo road crash

Three people were feared dead along the Itu-Uyo road traffic crash involving a Mack Truck with registration number KMM412XA and a tricycle with registration number ETN815WR.

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Akwa Ibom Command, Mr Matthew Olonisaye, disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo and made available to newsmen on Saturday.

Olonisaye attributed the crash to speeding on the part of the tricycle rider and inadequate lighting systems from both vehicles to enable clear visibility.

“A Fatal Crash along Itu – Uyo road at about 0555hrs, involving a Mack Truck with registration number KMM412XA and a Tricycle (Keke) with registration number ETN815WR on Saturday, Oct. 21,” Olonisaye said.

He said that three females and One male, all adults were involved, and Two out of the Three females and one male were confirmed dead while one of the females sustained injury.

He said that as the incident report was received, the FRSC operatives mobilised and moved over swiftly to attend to the situation.

“Upon arrival at the crash scene, the injured was moved to a nearby hospital for prompt medical attention while the deceased was deposited at a morgue,” he said.

The sector commander said that after the immediate evacuation of the victims, the road was cleared of the wreckage to enable the free flow of traffic.

Olonisaye urged road users to be extremely cautious about the foggy weather while using the roads during early hours due to poor visibility.

He noted that the incident could have been avoided if the people had taken into cognisance; Safety Precautions, and not given the occasion to abuse the privileges of having a good road without adherence to traffic rules and regulations.

The FRSC Boss said that the command had continually sensitised and enlightened motorists on safe road use culture to avert such incidences of road carnages.

He, therefore, reiterated the need for safety consciousness among drivers and riders.

He cautioned all road users against excessive speeding, Indiscriminate Parking, Inadequacy of Lighting systems, Distracted driving, Night Time Travel, Drunk Driving, and Non-adherence to traffic rules among others.

The sector commander commiserates with the families of the deceased and wishes the injured a quick recovery. Olonisaye urged all road users to strictly adhere to traffic rules for safe road usage to avoid loss of lives and property.
