Suspected bandits abduct Kebbi Deputy Speaker
Suspected bandits have abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Muhammad Sama’ila-Bagudo.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi by its Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, who disclosed that the lawmaker was kidnapped in Bagudo Local Government Area of the state.
According to the statement, the attack occurred on Friday night around 8:20 p.m., when a gang of armed men invaded Bagudo town and whisked away the Deputy Speaker shortly after he had observed the Isha’i prayer and was heading home.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, said the command had deployed a joint team comprising police tactical units, military personnel, and local vigilantes to track down the abductors and secure the safe release of the deputy speaker.
“The joint team is currently combing the bandits’ routes and nearby forests to rescue the lawmaker unhurt and apprehend those behind this heinous act,” Abubakar stated.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents across the state.
“The CP has also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support the police and other security agencies to ensure peace and stability in the state,” the PPRO pleaded.
The abductors had yet to announce their demands, while the state government had not issued any formal statement on the incident or its latest developments.
