Remi Tinubu initiative: Elderly persons in A’Ibom receive N100,000

Elderly persons across Akwa Ibom State have each received N100,000 from the Renewed Hope Elderly Support Initiative of Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, Wife of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The 250 beneficiaries which were drawn from the 31 local government areas of the state also received free medical checks.

The wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, hosted the beneficiaries on Friday at a party at the Government House, Uyo.

Speaking during the occasion, Mrs Eno who said the event was held at the instance of Nigeria’s First Lady, explained that Mrs Tinubu approved the names of all the beneficiaries and the funds they received.

Eno stated that the elderly support was the beginning of many in the series to come, adding that she was happy that the event coincided with the Supreme Court judgement certifying the electoral victory of her husband.

“This event did not happen today by chance. It happened on the day the Supreme Court certified my husband as the authentic winner of the last gubernatorial election. It means that I will always be here to celebrate with you people as your Governor’s wife,” she said.

Speaking earlier, Personal Assistant to the Governor’s Wife on Special Duties, Hon. Ann Abraham, said that the New Year celebration with the elderly was prompted by the First Lady’s resolve to enhance and cater for the well-being of the aged in the state.

Personal Physicians to the Governor, Dr Ekem John and Dr Uduak Nkanta, tasked the beneficiaries with the need for regular medical check-ups to identify early warning signs of disease or illness.

They mentioned that early detection of health conditions enables one to take precautions, get the best healthcare and reduce the risk of developing more health issues, and listed ailments common among the elderly including high blood pressure, stroke, and diabetes among others.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed delight over the gesture of the nation’s lady to host and empower them and commended the Governor’s wife for implementing the scheme in the state.
