The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Olusegun Odumosu, said he would work with the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, in capturing the biometrics of Lagosians, and by extension Nigerians, to enhance forensic investigation and curb crimes.

Odumosu revealed this during a courtesy visit of the Regional Coordinator of the Commission, Mrs Funmi Opesanwo and her team to the CP in Ikeja on Thursday.

The CP, however, directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance and Administration, Oqua Etim, to instruct all police personnel within the state, who have not been captured by the commission, to do so immediately.

This was contained in a statement signed and made available to journalists on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

He ordered that an office within the State Headquarters, Ikeja, be set aside for the commission to commence the exercise urgently.

“Biometric and database management help prevent and detect crimes as well as proper identification of residents. This will also assist the police and government to have accurate population of Lagos State and Nigeria, at large,” he said.

Reacting, the Regional Coordinator, Funmi Opesanwo, who was accompanied by the Lagos West State Coordinator, Mr Olumide Aremu, head of Administration, Mrs Ajibola Odedeji and others, enlightened the police and Lagosians on the importance of biometric capturing management to security of lives and property, Nigeria’s safety, good governance, and international reputation.

She urged Lagos residents to make themselves available for capturing, saying that such will avail them the grace of having their National Identity Cards numbers (NIN).
