Police recover vehicle stolen at gunpoint, arrest alleged buyer

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recovered a vehicle snatched from its owner at gunpoint and arrested the alleged buyer.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said the alleged car buyer, one Tony John Isaac, was arrested in possession of a blue Toyota Camry with registration number JJJ 412 GX, along Obio Imoh Street by Udoumana Traffic Light, Uyo.

John said Isaac could not present any evidence as the owner of car but alleged that he bought the vehicle from a person in Aba, Abia State, he could not identify or whose name and address he could not provide.

“On Monday, 27th June 2025, at about 7:00am, the Command, acting on credible intelligence, accosted and arrested one Tony John Isaac, male, aged 27, in possession of a blue Toyota Camry with registration number JJJ 412 GX, along Obio Imoh Street by Udoumana Traffic Light, Uyo.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect could not present any document or vehicle particulars linking him to the ownership of the said car. He further claimed to have purchased the vehicle from an unknown individual in Aba, Abia State, whose name and address he could not provide.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle had earlier been snatched at gunpoint from a man (name withheld) aged 48, on 28th February 2025 at about 8:40pm along Osusu Road, Aba, Abia State. Along with the car, other personal valuables were also forcefully taken from the victim by the armed men.

“With intensified effort and inter-state coordination, the victim was contacted and subsequently visited the State Command. He positively identified the car and presented valid proof of ownership, including original documents,” the PPRO said.

According to her, the victim had since expressed deep appreciation to the Nigeria Police Force for their swift action and professionalism that led to the recovery of the vehicle.
