Police nab two cultists, recover arms

Police operatives attached to Ikorodu Division, on Tuesday, around 12.30 pm, engaged some suspected members of Aiye Confraternity in a gun duel at Igbe Laara area of Ikorodu in Lagos State.
The police were said to be responding to a distress call from members of the public that some suspected cultists were seen at Igbe Laara area with dangerous weapons to foment troubles.
It was learnt that the police, with the help of some community members, raced to the scene before the deadly gang open fire on them.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the operatives, in a swift reaction, responded and engaged the cultists in fierce gun battle as some of them fled with bullet wounds.
He said: “Two of them, Waliyu and Timileyin Omobolaji, were eventually arrested with wounds while one cut-to-size pistol, 10 expended cartridges and six live cartridges were recovered from them.
“The injured ones have been taken to hospital for medical attention.”
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Hakeem Odumosu, appealed to members of the public, especially medical practitioners, to alert the police whenever they come across any of the fleeing suspected cultists with gun wounds.
Odumosu praised the gallantry of the police operatives and members of the public for their courage and commitment to tackle the deadly boys, who have been terrorising the area and entire Ikorodu.
The CP, however, ordered that the cultists be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba for discreet Investigation.
He further vowed to get Lagos State rid of cultism and other vices, assuring that all hands are on deck to continually fight crimes and criminality to a halt in Lagos State.
