Police nab mastermind of 13-year-old pregnant girl’s death

… arrest suspected attackers of corps members’ lodge

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested one Sunday George Sampson, who allegedly masterminded the death of a 13-year-old pregnant girl.

The command also said suspects in the attack and robbery of some corps members in the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) lodge along Information Drive in Uyo Local Government Area have been arrested.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon, added that the murder suspect, Sampson, impregnated his 13-year-old victim and forced her to undergo an abortion, resulting in her death.

Macdon, in a press statement made available to journalists on Thursday in Uyo, noted that the matter has been transferred to the Homicide Section for further investigation.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi frowned at the incident and urged parents to pay more attention to their children to prevent sexual abuse and social vices.

“One Sunday George Sampson has been arrested by the Nsit Ubium Division of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command.

“The suspect impregnated a 13-year-old girl child and secretly procured an abortion for her and she died in the process,” he said.

The PPRO also revealed that three suspects involved in the attack and robbery of corps members lodge on July 6, 2022, at about 01:30 am have been arrested.

It can be recalled that during the attack, the robbers dispossessed some corps members of their phones, jewellery, physical cash and other valuables, as well as damaged the doors of the partially fenced compound where their victims reside.

The attack forced the Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, to personally visit the scene of the incident in the company of the state NYSC Coordinator, where he promised to ensure the perpetrators were arrested.

According to the PPRO, the three suspects: Aniefiork Okon Willie a.k.a ‘Akpan Efa’, Iniobong Okon Eden, a.k.a ‘Orok’, and Joshua Bassey Asuquo, a.k.a ‘Sim Card’ or ‘immortal’, have confessed to the crime.

They also confessed to being cultists and responsible for terrorizing Aka community and its environs.

As such, the CP has vowed to continue investigations that would lead to the arrest of other gang members said to be at large.
