Police in Ogun nab 10 members of ‘Eiye’ cult

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested 10 members of the Eiye confraternity for allegedly terrorising Shagamu and its environs on Saturday, 6 May 2023 the command’s anti-cult unit.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspects are Adekoya Adesina, Ayinde Olumide, Adebayo Jamiu, Ajayi Temitope, Taiwo Olatunji, Oladapo Ayeye, Johnson Adeyemi, Tunde Banjo, Gbenga Morufu, and Tunde Adenuga.
Oyeyemi stated that the suspects were arrested following information the men of the Anti-Cult section received that a group of cultists were converging at different locations in Odogbolu with the intent to unleash terror in Shagamu.
The PPRO added that the hoodlums were being spurred on a supremacy battle that was ongoing among the various cults in Shagamu and its environs.
He said: “Upon the information, the anti-cultist team mobilised and moved to the area. On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums attacked them with dangerous weapons but were subdued by the policemen after which ten of the cultists were apprehended.
“The 2i/c of the unit, SP Morakinyo Adejumo was seriously injured during the operation, and he was rushed to a hospital where he is responding to treatment.
“Recovered from them are eight live cartridges and a large number of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Oladimeji, has ordered a manhunt for the remaining members of the group.
Oladimeji also vowed to make the state unconducive for cultists and other criminals as the command is ready to take the battle to their doorsteps.
