The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismissed a viral message circulating on social media alleging the influx of Boko Haram fighters into parts of Southern and North-Central Nigeria, including Lagos, Ilorin, and Rivers State.

The false alert also claimed that key holders embedded with tracking devices were being distributed in public places.

In a statement on Saturday, the Command said the message is entirely fake, misleading, and intended to cause unnecessary fear and panic.

It noted that no security agency has issued any intelligence supporting the claims, describing the content as “purely fabricated.”

Given the state’s proximity to some of the areas mentioned in the rumour, the police said it became necessary to reassure residents and urge them not to circulate unverified information.

The command encouraged members of the public to remain calm and continue their lawful activities, adding that robust security measures are operational across all local government areas. Patrols, surveillance units, tactical teams, and community policing structures are fully active and monitoring the security situation.

Residents were, however, advised to stay vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police station or any security agency.

The statement was signed by DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Police Command, on November 22, 2025.
