Police apprehend two suspects for vandalizing  IBEDC cable

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two men for allegedly vandalizing and stealing Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) Cable in Ijebu Ode. 

Crime report from the command indicated that the suspects were arrested on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. 

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspects are Odogwu Wisdom and Akorede Aregbe. 

According to him, the suspects were nabbed following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer, Igbeba Divisional headquarters around 2 am from the local vigilante at the Olisa area of Ijebu Ode that some vandals were carrying out their nefarious activities at an IBEDC transformer base station in the area. 

Oyeyemi said the DPO Igbeba Division, CSP Musiliu Doga, led the patrol team quickly to the area where Odogwu Wisdom, who came to the area on a motorcycle, was arrested with already cut cable from the electricity installation in the area, while his other colleagues escaped. 

He stated that during interrogation, Odogwu Wisdom confessed that he and his gang specialised in stealing electric cables; he mentioned one Akorede Aregbe as one of their receivers. 

The PPRO added that having mentioned the receiver, the policemen went after him and got him arrested as well. 

The police recovered large quantities of cables suspected to have been stolen from IBEDC installation and tools they used for the illicit trade. 

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
