The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced the activation of comprehensive security measures across the state to prevent and combat violent crime.
The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, said the move aligns with directives from the Inspector-General of Police and aims to strengthen public safety.
As part of the strategy, the command has intensified intelligence-led policing, increased patrols, and deployed personnel strategically across all local government areas.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, said on Tuesday, 7 April 2026, that high-risk locations, including farmlands, forests, waterways and major access routes, are now under continuous surveillance through coordinated day-and-night patrols.
According to her, special operations, such as intelligence-driven stop-and-search duties, have also been introduced at critical points to intercept criminal elements and prevent security breaches. Tactical units and patrol teams have been repositioned to enhance visibility and ensure a rapid emergency response.
“Collaboration with other security agencies has been strengthened to improve intelligence sharing and joint operations. These agencies include the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
“Residents are advised to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and cooperate with security agencies. Traditional rulers, community leaders, religious organisations, and youth groups must work with the police to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts,” she said.
John added, “For emergencies, members of the public are advised to contact the command through the following numbers: 08039213071, 08028916010, 08020913810, 09040000065, and 09169839215.”
The Police assured residents that all reports would be handled with urgency and confidentiality.
Azare warned criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities or face decisive action, stressing that the command would not tolerate threats to peace and security.
He, therefore, advised residents to disregard misinformation and rely only on verified updates from authorised security agencies.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring a safe and secure environment for all residents.
