One hospitalised as car rams into barricade in Lagos
A yet-to-be-identified man has been hospitalised after ramming into a barricade at CMS inward outer Marina, Lagos State, on Monday.
It was also learnt that the driver was drunk while overspeeding on the highway, causing the collision that damaged the roadside barricade at CMS.
Speaking in a phone interview with PUNCH Metro, the Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed that the driver of a Volkswagen Space bus with the number plate AAW 56 AA crashed at high speed into the road median.
He added that, according to an initial inquiry, the driver drank a lot of alcohol, which caused him to lose control and smash into the road median.
He said, “The driver of a Volkswagen Space bus with registration number AAW 56 AA rammed into the road media at high speed and got trapped.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the Volkswagen Space bus lost control and rammed into the road media as a result of heavy intake of alcohol.”
Taofiq also revealed that the driver sustained serious injuries on his body and has been taken to the ‘Odan’ General Hospital for emergency care.
To allow unrestricted vehicular traffic inside the marina, LASTMA officers rescued the trapped car from the barricade while police officers from the Lion Building supplied security assistance.
“Immediately after the accident happened, LASTMA personnel working around CMS outer Marina rushed to the accident scene and rescued the driver, who was later rushed to ‘Odan’ General Hospital for medical treatment.
“Policemen from Lion Building provided security backup while Lastma personnel recovered the trapped vehicle off the media to enable free vehicular movement inward outer Marina.”
He stressed that the acting General Manager, LASTMA, Bakare Oki, visited the scene while on a monitoring tour with the Agency’s top management. He made a plea to the driving public to follow all traffic laws and refrain from drinking and driving to safeguard everyone’s safety.
“The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bakare Oki, who was on a monitoring tour with top management of the Agency, visited the accident scene and appealed to the motoring public not to drink while driving and to obey all traffic regulations to ensure safety,” he said.
