The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Akwa Ibom State has deployed 650 personnel to strengthen security during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
The State Commandant, Geraldine Abetianbe, disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo on Thursday, noting that the move is aimed at ensuring the safety of residents during the Islamic festival.
She said the personnel were drawn from tactical units at the state command headquarters, area commands and divisional offices across the state.
According to her, officers have been stationed at strategic locations, including mosques, Eid prayer grounds, markets, recreational centres, shopping malls and other public places, to guarantee a peaceful celebration.
Abetianbe added that Deputy Commandant of Corps (DCC) Stanley Okpiabhele has been tasked with coordinating the operation and ensuring compliance across all 31 divisional offices in the state.
She also directed commanders to ensure that patrol teams effectively monitor key flashpoints within and around the Uyo metropolis.
The Commandant said the NSCDC is working closely with other security agencies to provide seamless security coverage throughout the festive period.
She urged officers to remain professional and vigilant, while offering assistance to members of the public where necessary.
Abetianbe further appealed to residents to stay calm and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
She reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and wished the Muslim faithful in the state a peaceful and blessed Eid al-Fitr celebration.
