Akwa United FC have assured their fans of victory when they slot it out with Kano Pillars on Match-Day 7 in Uyo on Saturday.
One of the dominant players for the team and Super Eagles reliable defender, Olisa Ndah, told his teammates that they must make good use of their chances during the match.
The centre-back, who regains his fitness after sustaining an injury on Match-day 3 against Abia Warriors, is in contention to start against Kano Pillars this weekend having taken part in all the team’s training sessions during the week.
According to Ndah, “I’m delighted to be back and train with the rest of my teammates after that thigh injury. It has been a difficult start for us, and we have to hit the ground running starting with this game against Kano Pillars.
“It’s difficult to believe that we have just six points from a possible 18. We are playing very well and creating lots of chances in all our matches, but the major issue has been converting those chances. Our coach Kennedy Boboye has inspired all of us; and our team is such that any player in the field can score. So, I’m optimistic that the story will change this weekend.
“The game against Kano Pillars is a crucial one and we need to put in our very best to ensure we make it count by securing maximum points on Saturday,” he said.
The Promise Keepers are 15th on the NPFL table with six points from six matches comprising one win, three draws and two losses.
Coach Boboye’s team will be aiming for their second victory of the season on Saturday against fifth – placed Kano Pillars who have never won or drawn a match against Akwa United in Uyo.
In their previous eight meetings, Akwa United have won four and Kano Pillars two, while two of those encounters ended in stalemates. Victory on Saturday will move Akwa United into the top half of the NPFL log.
The game which was originally fixed for Sunday 31st January, 2021 was brought forward to Saturday 30th January by the League Management Company LMC. It is scheduled to kick off by 4pm and will be played behind closed doors (without fans) and under strict Covid-19 guidelines.
