NOA, optometrists partner to combat preventable blindness

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strategic collaboration with stakeholders in the health sector to promote eye health and prevent avoidable blindness nationwide.
The assurance was given during a courtesy visit by the Nigerian Optometric Association, led by its President, Dr Chimeziri Anderson, to the NOA Director-General, Lanre Issa-Onilu, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
Issa-Onilu, represented by the Director of Health and Social Care, Dr Abiodun Ayoola, welcomed the delegation and commended the association’s efforts in advancing eye care services across Nigeria.
He reiterated NOA’s readiness to partner with the association to drive sustained public awareness on eye health, highlighting the agency’s extensive grassroots network and communication platforms.

Earlier, Anderson stressed the urgent need for intensified public enlightenment on eye care, noting that a significant proportion of blindness in Nigeria is preventable with timely intervention and proper awareness.
