NLC solidarity strike: Ogun police assure public of safety

The Ogun State Police Command has assured members of the public of the safety of lives and property before, during and after the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in solidarity with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike.

This was contained in a statement signed by DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, Police Public Relations Officer in the state.

The statement read in part: “In view of the protest slated for Tuesday 26th of July 2022 by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in solidarity with the strike action embarked upon by Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), the Ogun State Police Command wishes to assure the general public that, their safety is guaranteed before, during and after the said protest.

“In as much as protest is one of the inalienable rights of the citizens, the command wishes to appeal to NLC and other affiliated groups who might want to participate in the said protest to be civil and peaceful in order not to violate the rights of others.

“The command hereby appeals to the general public to go about their lawful businesses without fear of intimidation or harassment, as Police and other security agencies will be fully on ground to monitor the situation so as to prevent hoodlums from hijacking the process.”

The statement urged parents and guardians to warn their children/wards who may want to use the opportunity to foment trouble to have a rethink or face the consequences.
