Nigerian governor escapes death as two killed in bomb blast

At least two civilians were killed when they ran into an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by terrorists of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) between Gajibo and Maula in Dikwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno state, Northeast Nigeria.

According to the report, the victims, loaded in an Izuzu van, were heading to Gamborun Ngala from Dikwa, when the incident happened on Monday.

The IEDs were reportedly targeted at the convoy of Governor Babagana Zulum, who passed through the road to Gomboru on Sunday where he spent the night.

It was gathered that troops of Op Hadin Kai later destroyed three other explosives on the road.

ISWAP has intensified ambush and planting of IEDs on highways across the north of Borno as an ambush strategy against the Nigerian military.

The insurgents recently deployed militants strike team to attack troops that will be passing through Cross-Baga or Gajiram- Monguno roads.
