NCAA meets with domestic airline operators

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is to meet with all domestic airlines nationwide for a stakeholders’ discourse.

The meeting, which is slated for Wednesday, was confirmed by Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, via his X handle on Tuesday.

Achimugu said some passengers were invited to join the meeting, though he did ot say how the selection of passengers was made.

He wrote, “The NCAA has invited all domestic airlines to a meeting in Abuja slated for tomorrow, Wednesday.

“Among the issues to be treated are: Unruly passenger behaviour and passenger handling protocols, unresolved refund/compensation issues, and introduction of RFID bag tags and flight monitoring technology.

He continued with the issues to be treated, saying, “Enforcement of phone switch-off instruction and protection for cabin crew, and improved travel experience for passengers.

He added that the meeting will be live on the NCAA’s official X and Facebook accounts.

This comes barely 24 hours after the NCAA emphasised that airlines must uphold the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, particularly Part 19, which outlines specific obligations to passengers in the event of delays or cancellations, including providing hotel accommodations for stranded travellers between 10:00 pm and 4:00 am.

The regulatory body stated its readiness to begin “naming and shaming” airlines that consistently flout aviation rules, particularly those that delay or cancel flights without due process or passenger support.
