Managing security entails collaboration of stakeholders - Adetuberu

Akpan Umoh, Uyo

The Director, Department of State Service, Akwa Ibom State Command, Dr Doyin Adetuberu, has said that ensuring adequate security in the country requires information sharing and collaboration from stakeholders.

Adetuberu reassured of the Command’s commitments to other security agencies in the state to address the issues of kidnapping, murder, armed robbery and other security breaches rocking the state in recent times.

He said this to newsmen, who came on a courtesy visit at the command headquarters in Uyo on Tuesday.

The state director said that security agencies have adopted a model that is people-oriented, which would make Akwa Ibom people proud of the service at the end of the day.

Adetuberu, who is barely one month in Akwa Ibom said that the command had made some arrests in respect to kidnapping and other security vices in the state.

He added that arrangements have been concluded to arraign in Court several suspects arrested in connection with sundry crimes including cultism, kidnapping, murder and armed robbery in various locations in the state.

“On assumption of duties, we had issues of kidnapping and we took over flashpoints in the state and arrests have been made while investigations have reached an advanced stage.

“The security agencies in Akwa Ibom are united especially in intelligence sharing to tackle the issues of insecurity.

“The Governor, Mr Umo Eno has given us all the necessary support and I want to assure Akwa Ibom people that, very soon they will be proud of security agencies due to the model we are going to adopt,” Adetuberu said.

Adetuberu attributed issues of cultism and sundry crimes perpetuated by the youth to societal malaise and the failure of family institutions.

The state director of DSS said that the family has a significant role to play in inculcating moral values to the children.

“The truth is that kidnapping, cultism and other vices are indications of societal malaise and failure of family institutions.

“We should realise that as a family we have a critical role to play in inculcating discipline in our children and ensuring that they conduct themselves responsibly at all times.
