The deceased was at an end of the year party with his friends at Tingles Lodge, Ikot Udoma in Eket, when he died in the pool.

The family said there was foul play was and demanded the CCTV footage of what happened in the hotel during the period.

It was, however, learnt that the CCTV footage from around 4:15 am to around 5:58 am had mysteriously disappeared.

A source told our correspondent that all the people at the end of the year party including Akpan had left the swimming pool but wondered how the deceased body was later recovered there.

He said: “There are many questions to be answered. All the people including the deceased left the swimming pool. How come that his body was later recovered in the same swimming pool?

“What was the depth of the swimming pool? Were there no lifeguards or security? And where did he sleep and with whom? There are many unanswered questions in the case.

Akpan’s family have taken to Facebook to mourn the death of their son.

The family is demanding justice over the death of their son, especially as there is non-availability of the footage during the time he died. The family said since the footage is destroyed, it shows that Akpan was murdered.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon, declined comments on the incident as his telephone rang out. He did not also respond to a text message that was sent to his phone.
