Man blames alcohol for defiling neighbour’s daughter in Lagos

A 32-year-old married man, Sunday Ukeme, who was arrested by the police for defiling his neighbour’s daughter in the Lekki area of Lagos State, blamed his action on the alcohol.

The suspect was said to have sexually abused a girl (names withheld) who was left in the care of his wife when the mother of the victim travelled for three weeks.

Trouble started for the married man as soon as his wife Mary Sunday left for a vigil service in the church and he allegedly took advantage of the minor at Idaso Town, Ibeju Lekki around 10.30 pm on September 20, 2021.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, CSP, Adekunle Ajisebutu, on Sunday, said when the mother of the minor arrived in Lagos, reported the case at a police station.

According to him, the report was lodged at the Police Station on October 4, 2021, adding that the detectives immediately arrested the suspect.

Ajisebutu said the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation.

In his confessional statement, the suspect pleaded for mercy, blaming his shameful, immoral, and criminal act on the influence of alcohol.

Meanwhile, the victim has since been taken to the hospital for medical attention and the case has been transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti for diligent investigation and prosecution on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.

Odumosu while promising to protect every girl child and other vulnerable persons in the state, vows to prosecute paedophiles with unbridled sexual urge for minors.
