LG poll: Aspirant canvasses for violent free primaries in Ikorodu

One of the aspirants for the position of chairmanship in Ikorodu North, Mr Mathew Adesanya on Friday urged All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and members to ensure a violent-free exercise during the party’s primaries on Saturday.

Adesanya said this during a press briefing in Ikorodu, Lagos State. He added that violence is an instrument that can truncate the internal democracy of the party.

Adesanya, former Secretary to Ikorodu North (SLG) Local Council Developmental Area (LCDA) told journalists after the meeting that there is no gain in engaging in violence that can lead to the disruption of the primaries.

“If the purpose of this election is to develop ourselves, I don’t see any reason for anybody to engage in violence that can disrupt the election.

“Election is an internal mechanism to have a candidate which I am one of the contestants; my appeal is for all voters to be free to cast their votes.

“Everybody should please show decorum because there is no gain killing, nailing or engaging in violence,” he said.

According to him, the process is an open secret ballot, councillorship result would be announced at the polling unit while the chairmanship result would be announced by the returning officers of the party.

Adesanya, who was the coordinator of Onyabo security outfit in Ikorodu North, urged all members to come out en-masse with their membership card and exercise their franchise as party members.

He called on the party’s leaders to ensure violent free election and urged members to choose candidates of their choice without fear or favour.
